Usually, in Vanilla Minecraft, we can only bump the render distance to somewhere around 32, but this number doubled with the addition of OptiFine. It's Distant Horizons, and it adds LODS to Minecraft, which means the ability to bump render distance to an astonishing number without tanking the performance. The mechanic for it is pretty simple and has been used for years in other games; it's decreasing the quality of further details; this may be a little bit noticeable if you zoomed in, but it's seldom visible in regular gameplay, Thanks to Distant Horizons, you are now able to have a clean survival experience with the ability to travel around having only two render distance on. In the meantime, this mod is still under development and lacks some features, such as compatibility with shaders, but shortly, it'll be complete.
